Kim France: The Best 10 Shopping Sites For Under-$100 Steals
Kim France, the former EIC of Lucky Magazine and current blogger at Girls of a Certain Age, is now sharing her shopping wisdom on Racked. Today, she shares 10 excellent sources for clothes and accessories on the cheap.
Mango.
Take it from somebody who spends a lot of time searching out all that is cheap and chic on the web: there are bargains aplenty to be had, but you must get in there and dig. The sites here are the ones I go back to the most (they all carry clothes that ring in over $ 100 too, so set your search filters accordingly).—Kim France
ASOS.
1. ASOS: This UK-based brand had a strong following here even before they officially launched US commerce in 2010, and with good reason: they’ve got a near-bottomless selection in every category they offer. It’s hard to narrow the ASOS aesthetic down to one word, but it’s safe to say that if there’s a trend worth hopping on, it’s represented here. Of particular note: their excellent in-house Curve line for plus sizes. [Site]
Need Supply.
2. Need Supply: The aesthetic at Need Supply is decidedly monochrome and hipster (tattooed models? check) and those looking for the dressed-down, the slouchy, and the stealthily chic will be very happy. Inexpensive coats and sweaters proliferate, and I especially like the selection of seriously dirt-cheap bags. [Site]
A look from Mango.
3. Mango: If it’s classic office separates you’re looking for, Mango’s your place, and if it’s red leopard-print jeans you’re after, well then Mango’s got you covered too. Everything at this Spanish chain has a young, urban vibe, but there’s a slickness that keeps it all looking very grown up too. [Site]
Topshop.
4. Topshop The British High Street chain plays it quick and dirty with the trends, and if you aren’t picky about fabric content, you can be very happy here. A great resource for vegan leather bags and boots. [Site]
Piperlime.
5. Piperlime: You’ll find all of your day in, day-out basics at this Gap-owned retailer, as well as pieces that are on the more accessible end of the trend spectrum—and I don’t mean that as a bad thing. There’s also a more than decent shoe selection. [Site]
Nordstrom.
6. Nordstrom: Before they got into the department store business, the Nordstrom family was in the shoe business, and it’s a category they remain famous for doing well. You won’t find as extensive a selection of reasonably priced options at any other big name department store. [Site]
Uniqlo.
7. Uniqlo: The Japanese mega-retailer has made its name by doing certain things—cashmere sweaters, down jackets, remarkably warm layering pieces—very, very well, and extremely inexpensively. But their occasional collaborations—recent ones include famed British print designer Celia Birtwell and the Warhol Foundation—can be a lot of fun too. [Site]
Zara.
8. Zara: The Mothership of runway-to-street style, this retail behemoth pulls off some of the best-looking inexpensive pieces you’ll find anywhere. Recent standouts include their coat and denim selections. Quality can be hit-and-miss, however: be sure to check the fabric content of any piece you’re considering before you fall in love. [Site]
H&M.
9. H&M: You can only find a fraction of what’s in store on H&M’s site, but it’s the right fraction: look forward to finding sophisticated prints, Euro-chic coats, and enough party dresses to get you through any holiday season. [Site]
Nasty Gal.
10. Nasty Gal: Not as much for the skimpy party girl dresses than for the accessories—and in particular, the bags. Most ring in well under $ 100. [Site]
