Instagrammer Fed Up With Affiliate Links Tries to Shortcut the System

Affiliate marketing company RewardStyle created Liketoknow.it as a way to monetize Instagram posts, but not everyone’s in love with the system. Three days ago, an account called @whereubuyit launched on Instagram with the tagline: “Tired of being forced to click affiliate links to get the deets on a product? So are we.” The account holder reposts blogger outfit pictures along with a caption listing where all the products can be found. In the LikeToKnow. It system, users have to sign up for emails, like photos, and click corresponding links in order to find out where to buy featured products.

When Get Off My Internets posted about the account, there was an outpouring of support for the idea. “Fingers crossed that this takes off,” one commenter wrote. “I can’t tell you how many bloggers I have asked very nicely to share a source because I’m not comfortable with the like it know it crap and they refuse.”

Others speculated that it probably won’t last long as Instagram frowns on reposting images from other accounts. “One of the pics already got taken down by Instagram because it was reported as ‘copyright infringement,'” a commenter wrote. “I don’t doubt that other bloggers will soon start to flag their pictures too.”
