Intelligence: Amazon Just Made It Even Easier to Showroom

It’s collectively understood that the term “showrooming” means demoing an item in a store and ordering it later for cheaper on Amazon. Now, thanks to image recognition capabilities in its iOS app, the behemoth retailer is playing up that notorious behavior by making it easier than ever for users to comparison shop. Users can simply snap a picture of what they want to instantly price compare on the site.
Amazon originally tested the tech with an app called Flow but now, the feature has been incorporated in Amazon’s main iOS title (they’ve retained the name Flow). It works by identifying media package covers, logos, artwork and “other unique visual features,” according to TechCrunch. Out of package items might are more difficult to recognize. Still, in terms of kind of creepy technology, Amazon continues to win.
