Anna Wintour, Condé Nast artistic director and Vogue editor who needs no intro, publicly gave Hillary Clinton her 2016 presidential campaign support way back in July 2013 at the “Oscar de la Renta: American Icon” exhibit opening in Little Rock, Arkansas. And now, finally, the former Secretary of State has made her first appearance on Vogue since the endorsement with an excerpt from her memoir Hard Choices (to be released June 10 by Simon & Schuster). Apropos to Mother’s Day, the passage is about the struggles endured by Clinton’s late mother, Dorothy Howell Rodham, and the lessons she imparted.

It starts:

From the moment I first held Chelsea in my arms in the hospital in Little Rock, I knew my mission in life was to give her every opportunity to thrive. As she’s grown up and stepped out into the world in her own right, my responsibilities have changed. Now that she’s expecting a child of her own, I’m preparing for a new role that I’ve looked forward to for years: grandmother. And I’ve found myself thinking a lot about my relationship with my own mom, as an adult as well as in childhood, and what lessons I learned from her.
