First high-end frozen meals, and now master’s degrees? Major publishing house Condé Nast is jumping into business ventures far beyond Vogue, Allure, Glamour and GQ, and its next partnership is in the world of academia. Inside Higher Ed reports that writers and editors at Condé Nast magazines will be subject matter experts for accredited certificate programs and eventually master’s-degree programs. Universities will team up with Condé Nast for the project, which is backed by University Ventures.
Condé Nast’s chief administrative officer Jill Bright told Inside Higher Ed that it’s a “natural next step,” considering many editors already work as adjunct instructors.
Does that mean you’ll be able to get a diploma with Vogue written on it? Not really. The partner colleges and universities will be the “institution,” not the magazines, Inside Higher Ed clarifies. Architectural Digest, Wired, and Gourmet will be the first magazines to contribute to the program, but other Condé Nast publications like Allure, The New Yorker, and Vanity Fair could get involved, too. Think of the possibilities. If Allure’s EIC Linda Wells signed on, for example, that might be enough reason to go back to school.
