The Dictionary Channels Its Inner BAE, Attempts to Define WTF and Twerk
In an effort to distinguish itself as a cool dictionary (as opposed to a regular dictionary), Merriam Webster revealed recently that the following words are now worthy of its definition:
- Emoji (n.): any of various images or icons used in the text fields in electronic communication to express emotional attitude
- WTF (abbrev.): what the f*ck, used to describe outraged surprise, confusion or bemusement
- Photobomb (v.): to move into the frame of a photograph as it is being taken
- Meme (n.): an amusing or interesting item (such as a captioned picture or video) or genre of items that is spread online especially through social media
- Twerk (v.): sexually suggestive dancing characterized by rapid, repeating hip thrusts and shaking of the buttocks, especially while squatting (illustrated above)
- Macaron (n.): a light, often brightly colored cookie sandwich consisting of two rounded flaky cookies
Please consult said definitions if you find yourself worried about the authenticity of your flaky, round cookies and/or twerking maneuvers. But seriously, WTF.
